Authorities confirmed today that 46-year-old Gregory Edward McMullen died in a townhouse fire Saturday.

McMullen was a resident at 147 Woodlake Drive. His body was discovered on the second story of the structure Saturday. Authorities had been awaiting the result of an autopsy to confirm his identity.

Two people died in a house fire in Lovingston early Wednesday morning.
A mother and her 10-year-old son died in the blaze, which broke out in a two-story home on U.S. 29 near Stagebridge Road, said Capt. Tim Asbell of the Lovingston Fire Department. Their names have not been released.
The 10-year-old’s father and two other children were rescued and transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Fire departments were dispatched shortly after 1 a.m. to the house, Asbell said.
Five fire departments responded – Lovingston, Rockfish, Fauber, Wintergreen and North Garden.

An elderly woman remains in critical condition this afternoon after she was badly burned this morning in a fire at her home in the 3400 block of Lawson Street, officials and a family member said.

The woman, identified by a niece as Irene Childress, 78, of 3407 Lawson St. near Southside Plaza in South Richmond, was rushed to VCU Medical Center. The niece, Tabitha Shifflett, said Childress suffered burns over 70 percent of her body.

A South Richmond woman has died from smoke inhalation and burns suffered in a house fire a week ago.

Teree Allen, 59, died Friday at VCU Medical Center, according to fire department spokesman Lt. Michael Oprandy. She was the city’s first fire fatality of the new year.

Early Jan. 14, firefighters found Allen unresponsive on the kitchen floor of the home she shared with her mother in the 1600 block of Fairfax Avenue. They revived her pulse in the front yard and rushed her to the hospital.

Cindy Midgette is in a recliner, a soft pink blanket on her lap, an oxygen tube extending from her nose to someplace out of sight. She is the reason they are all here – two sisters; a friend who is like a sister; two colleagues; her son, Jeremy; her husband, Forrest.

Sheriff’s deputies say 71-year-old Charles Sine, Sr. died of smoke inhalation.

SUFFOLK – A house in Suffolk was destroyed by fire last night, but firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to nearby homes.

Capt. Jim Judkins said firefighters responded to the fire on N. 4th Street at 11:36 p.m. He said it was unclear if anyone was in the house at the time, but no injuries were reported.

Fire marshal Anne-Marie Loughran said the fire on Greenbrier Avenue was called in at 7:04 p.m. She said investigators determined that the family had started a fire in the fireplace, and some decaying wooden elements within the chimney of the century-old house caught fire and spread.

PRINCE GEORGE — A fire truck involved in an accident that injured three county firefighters will most likely be declared a total loss, said Max Bornstein, the county’s director of fire, emergency medical services and emergency management.

The accident occurred Jan. 2 when the engine, from Company 1, was responding to a call of a structure fire in the southern end of the county.

A tractor-trailer hauling pizza sauce to Sussex County collided with the fire engine at the intersection of County Drive (U.S. Route 460) and Bull Hill Road. The impact of the tractor-trailer was severe enough to rotate the 50,000- to 60,000-pound fire engine 180 degrees.

A woman and her elderly mother are being treated at VCU Medical Center this morning for treatment after a house fire in the 1600 block of Fairfax Avenue off Jefferson Davis Highway in Richmond.

The daughter, who was found in the kitchen, is in serious condition after being revived at the scene by rescue workers, according to fire department spokesman Lt. Mike Oprandy. Her mother, who escaped through the front of the house, was initially treated for smoke inhalation at a neighbor’s house. She is expected to be treated at VCU and released.

Many of us are feeling the pain at the pump, but for some volunteer firefighters keeping us safe means paying more gas money. The volunteer firefighters at North Garden are paying for the gas out of their own pockets. They are also working regular jobs and they drive their own vehicles whenever a call comes in.

Arson is the suspected cause of a Dec. 27 Albemarle County house fire that occurred while the homeowners were out of town, authorities announced Tuesday.

Billy Clark, an investigator with the Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s Office, said officials “ruled out all other options.”

An insurance company estimated that the fire caused $250,000 worth of damage to the two-story home at 285 Jester Lane in the Camelot subdivision, according to Clark.

A Richmond woman doused with gasoline and set on fire Monday is still in the hospital in critical condition, police say.

It happened at a hotel in South Richmond. Investigators say the attack stemmed from a domestic dispute. They have charged her estranged boyfriend, 40-year-old Stacey Carter with malicious wounding charges. Police say if the woman doesn’t survive, his charges could be upgraded to murder.

Two people in Winchester have lost their lives in a house fire.

The fire started Monday morning on Cedar Creek Grade. Fire crews found two people dead inside the home when they arrived.

Police have not released the names of the victims.

Neighbors, friends, and co-workers say the victims were a married couple in their 60s. They say the husband worked in the pet department at a local Wal-Mart, and his wife was wheelchair bound after losing her leg to an illness a few years ago
